CHALLENGE
The Australian Open is a playground for experiential activities by sponsors and Tennis Australia with the first of the Grand Slams attracting significant tourism dollars into the state’s economy. Neonormal approached DisplayWise to partner with them to create a dining space following their creative vision:
“Colourful but elegant, simple but layered, sophisticated yet playful. Challenging the conventions of ‘premium’, we want to design the most unique and vibrant dining experience for VIP guests at the Australian Open. We want to transform the function room connected directly to the court at Rod Laver Arena into a whole new world – ‘O’ evokes the cool chic of Melbourne, unexpected, atmospheric, extraordinary.”
More specifically, Neonormal wanted DisplayWise to bring their design to life, transforming the render into reality.

SOLUTION
Working alongside Neonormals other event suppliers engaged to deliver floral installations, styling pieces and furniture, DisplayWise carefully followed Neonormal’s creative direction to bring to life the built environment for the VIP experience. The moody colour palette boasted shades of plum, apricot, royal blue, pink and teal that created a warm and inviting area for guests to mingle.
The layering of textured paints on surfaces complemented the fabrics, greenery and soft lighting that was discreetly hidden into edges of the wall panels. Delivering another experiential project on site for Yonex at the Australian Open had our installation team working around the clock to bump in, build, test and apply finishing touches before the action and excitement of the tennis commenced.
RESULT
An immersive new world was a welcome escape for the select list of invited guests who were lucky enough to dine in this plush experiential space. The result reflected the creative vision of Neonormal achieving a sophisticated and premium event space where sporting stars, celebrities and dignitaries rubbed shoulders with the tennis elite. Both Neonormal and Tennis Australia were extremely pleased with the outcome, proving that when a bunch of creative experts collaborate to achieve such a beautiful vision, magic can be made.
