Job description
National Production Manager – Scheduling, Manufacturing & Logistics
Immediate Start
The Production Manager is a senior operational leader responsible for end‑to‑end production planning, scheduling, workflow optimisation, and logistics coordination across a fast‑paced, project‑driven manufacturing environment.
This role is not about being the best stand builder—it is about building a high‑performing production system, supporting growth, lifting operational discipline, and embedding lean, just‑in‑time manufacturing principles to ensure predictable delivery, quality, and scalability.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, commercial acumen, and manufacturing discipline, regardless of industry background.
Key Accountabilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
Own and continuously improve master production schedules across all active projects.
Balance capacity, labour, machines, subcontractors, and deadlines to meet delivery commitments.
Implement clear weekly and forward‑looking production plans aligned to project milestones.
Drive on‑time, right‑first‑time delivery across workshop and installation phases.
Reduce firefighting through proactive planning and visibility.
Lean Manufacturing & Just‑In‑Time Delivery
- Embed Lean / JIT principles to reduce waste, rework, excess inventory, and unnecessary handling.
- Optimise material flows so items are produced and delivered when needed—not early, not late.
- Establish standard work, process discipline, and continuous improvement cadence.
- Use data to identify bottlenecks, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
- Modernise production thinking with scalable systems and repeatable processes.
Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination
- Oversee inbound materials, internal movements, warehousing, and outbound logistics.
- Ensure production schedules and logistics plans are fully aligned.
- Minimise double‑handling, storage congestion, and last‑minute transport escalation.
- Coordinate closely with Field Operations and Project Managers to support install programs.
- Champion practical, cost‑effective logistics planning across states.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, foremen, and production staff.
- Create a culture of accountability, professionalism, and pride in delivery.
- Set clear expectations around performance, safety, quality, and behaviour.
- Support succession planning and capability uplift within production teams.
- Be a calm, solutions‑focused leader in high‑pressure environments.
WHS, Compliance & Risk
- Hold full accountability for Workplace Health & Safety compliance within production and logistics.
- Ensure safe systems of work, risk assessments, and compliance documentation are embedded.
- Maintain strong discipline around inductions, equipment compliance, and safe work practices.
- Ensure production operations meet legal, award, and regulatory obligations.
- Actively promote a safety‑first culture without compromising productivity.
Operational Reporting & Improvement
Provide clear reporting on:
- Capacity vs demand.
- Labour utilisation
- Schedule adherence.
- Productivity and efficiency.
- Safety and compliance.
Support the COO with insights, data, and recommendations for operational improvement.
Contribute actively to broader business improvement and growth initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience & Capability
- Proven experience as a Production Manager / Operations Manager / Manufacturing Manager.
- Strong background in scheduling, production planning, and logistics coordination.
- Demonstrated success implementing Lean, JIT, or continuous improvement frameworks.
- Experience leading teams in project‑based or time‑critical manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, compliance, and risk management.
- Commercially minded with a focus on efficiency, scale, and reliability.
Highly Regarded (but not essential)
- Experience in custom manufacturing, joinery, fit‑out, modular build, or similar industries.
- Exposure to project‑based environments (construction, fabrication, events, manufacturing).
- Experience modernising production systems or driving cultural change.
Leadership Attributes
- Confident, credible, and calm under pressure.
- Process‑driven but people‑focused.
- Comfortable challenging legacy ways of working.
- Strong communicator across senior leadership, project teams, and the workshop floor.
· Motivated by building systems that enable growth, not by micromanagement.
Why This Role Matters
This role is critical to:
- Enabling leadership to operate at a strategic level rather than in daily firefighting.
- Supporting business scalability, margin protection, and delivery reliability.
- Building an independent, professional, and highly capable production function aligned to future growth objectives.
